Krajicek Court, Breda
To encourage outdoor sports, the city of Breda chose to partner with the Richard Krajicek Foundation (RKF) to redesign a football pitch. The highlight of the Krajicek Court in Breda is the yellow and black customised Citybox with combined goals. They can be used for a variety of sports.
RKF tries to encourage outdoor sports and support the community in its goal to get everyone – young and old alike – away from their computer or TV screens and to get them doing sports activities outdoors. Because the Citybox that was to be installed would come rather close to the houses, the local authority wanted to find a transparent and preferably low-noise version. Furthermore, the Citybox had to be suitable for various outdoor sports, so that all residents – children, youth and adults – could benefit from the field. In consultation with the local authority, a yellow and black coloured Citybox, with combined goals for football and basketball and three-metre high perimeters, was developed. The special cables in the fencing and backstops keep the sight lines open and reduce the sound of balls hitting them. This makes it acceptable for residents.
